The "Personal Choice" category prizes were created as part of the first Tretyakov Prize, a self-organized award in the field of contemporary art with a self-proclaimed expert council.
The entire series consisted of five prizes, which were awarded to artists Evgeny Antufiev, Arseny Zhilyaev, Taus Makhacheva, Kirill Savchenkov, and Nikolai Smirnov for their various achievements in Russian contemporary art.
The prize objects serve as a form of criticism of these artists’ work. In a trivial, imitative form, they mimic artworks featuring elements of individual mythology, works that do not reveal the true essence of things and phenomena, but instead mystify reality.
